PM Surya Ghar Subsidy Rejected or Stuck? Common Reasons and How to Fix Them (2026)

If your PM Surya Ghar application has been sitting unchanged for weeks, or you got a rejection remark you don't fully understand, you are not alone. Most of the time the cause is a small, fixable mismatch — not a fundamental problem with your eligibility. Here is what actually goes wrong, in what order, and how each one gets resolved.

How the application is supposed to flow

Before diagnosing a stuck application, it helps to know the normal path. On the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in, an application moves through distinct stages: registration, DISCOM feasibility approval, installation by a registered vendor, submission of the plant and net meter request, net meter installation and DISCOM inspection, commissioning certificate generation, and finally the subsidy transfer to your bank account. In Telangana, TGREDCO (Registration TSRE260936 in our case) is the nominated implementing agency and single window for coordinating this with the local DISCOM.

Every one of the "rejected" or "stuck" cases below happens at a specific point in that chain. Knowing which stage you're at tells you which fix applies.

The most common rejection and delay reasons

These are the issues installers and applicants across India commonly report running into on the portal. Not every applicant hits all of these — but almost every rejected or stalled case traces back to one of them.

Reason How to Fix It
Name mismatch across electricity bill, Aadhaar, and bank accountCheck all three records for exact spelling. Correct the odd one out at its source (DISCOM name-correction request, Aadhaar update, or bank KYC update) rather than trying to force the portal to accept a mismatch.
Vendor not empanelled / registered on the portal for your DISCOMConfirm your installer's registration before signing anything. Sri Ishaan Solar's TGREDCO registration is TSRE260936 — verifiable on the portal.
Panels not on the ALMM list / not DCR-compliant where requiredAsk for the panel model and manufacturer name in writing before installation and cross-check it against MNRE's approved list, so this is caught before, not after, installation.
System size doesn't match your sanctioned electrical loadConfirm your sanctioned load with the DISCOM before finalising a 3kW, 5kW, or 10kW system, and get a load enhancement done first if needed.
Outstanding dues / arrears on the electricity accountClear all pending dues and, where the DISCOM offers one, obtain a no-dues confirmation before or alongside applying.
Blurry, outdated, or mismatched documents (electricity bill, ID proof, address proof)Upload a recent bill (not older than a few months), scan documents clearly instead of phone-camera photos, and make sure the address matches your application.
Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, or wrong IFSC enteredConfirm Aadhaar-seeding with your bank branch (or via UIDAI) before the commissioning stage, since the subsidy is transferred by DBT directly to this account.
DISCOM feasibility or net-metering approval delayedThis isn't usually a "rejection" — it's a queue. Feasibility approval commonly takes 1-4 weeks depending on the DISCOM. Follow up in writing if it crosses that window.
Net metering not requested as a separate step after installationNet metering is a distinct request filed after installation, not automatic. Confirm your installer has actually filed it once the system is up.

The single biggest cause we see: the three-way name match. The portal cross-checks the name on your electricity connection, your Aadhaar, and your bank account. Even something as small as "Ramesh Kumar" on your electricity bill versus "R. Kumar" on your bank passbook is commonly reported to trigger a hold or rejection. It costs nothing to check this on day one, and it is one of the most preventable stalls in the whole process.

Where in the process things typically go wrong

It's worth separating "rejected" from "stuck" — they need different responses.

How long should this actually take?

The government's stated benchmark is that the subsidy should be credited within about 30 working days of your commissioning certificate being generated on the portal. That benchmark assumes everything upstream — feasibility approval, installation, net meter, and inspection — has already gone smoothly.

In practice, total time from application to subsidy credit commonly reported by applicants ranges from roughly 6-8 weeks in DISCOM circles that are keeping up with volume, to several months in areas with heavier backlogs. Feasibility approval alone is commonly reported to take anywhere from about a week to a month depending on the DISCOM's queue and whether a site inspection is needed.

When to actually worry: If your application has shown zero movement for more than 4-6 weeks at any single stage, that's the point to stop waiting passively and start following up — first with your installer, then in writing with the DISCOM, and if needed via the MNRE helpline (1800-180-3333) or CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in). Don't wait months assuming it will resolve itself.

Where a good installer actually helps

A large share of these problems are avoidable simply by catching them before submission rather than after rejection. This is the part of the process that has the least to do with the panels on your roof and the most to do with paperwork discipline.

At Sri Ishaan Solar, since we started installing rooftop systems in Bandlaguda, Hyderabad in 2017, handling this application on the customer's behalf has been a standard part of every installation — not an add-on. For our fixed 3kW, 5kW, and 10kW residential packages, our team:

Because we only install residential systems in these three fixed capacities, we've seen the same handful of rejection causes repeat often enough to know which ones to pre-empt.

What to do right now if you're stuck

  1. Log into pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your consumer number and OTP, and read the exact status/remark shown for your application.
  2. Match that remark against the table above — most fall into one of these buckets.
  3. Fix the specific document or field flagged, rather than resubmitting the whole application blind.
  4. If the delay is at the DISCOM's end (feasibility, net meter, inspection) with no remark at all, that's usually a queue, not a rejection — follow up directly with the DISCOM first.
  5. If it's been stuck for more than about a month with no explanation, escalate: DISCOM grievance cell, then MNRE helpline, then CPGRAMS.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the PM Surya Ghar subsidy actually take to arrive?
The official benchmark is 30 working days from your commissioning certificate being generated, after net meter installation and DISCOM inspection. Real-world timelines vary by DISCOM backlog — if it's been more than 6-8 weeks since commissioning with no update, it's reasonable to start following up.

Why was my application rejected even though my documents were correct?
The most frequently reported causes are a name mismatch across your electricity bill, Aadhaar, and bank account; a non-empanelled vendor or non-ALMM panel; a system size mismatched to your sanctioned load; or unpaid dues on the electricity account. Each is fixable without necessarily restarting from scratch.

Can I fix a rejected application myself, or do I need to start over?
Most rejections can be corrected in place — log back in, see the specific remark, fix that field or document, and resubmit. A full restart is rarely needed, mainly in cases like applying under the wrong DISCOM or wrong consumer category.

Does Sri Ishaan Solar handle the subsidy application for me?
Yes — for every 3kW, 5kW, and 10kW installation, our team manages the PM Surya Ghar portal application on your behalf, checking name-matching, vendor and panel compliance, and load sizing upfront, and following up with the DISCOM on net metering.

Is there a separate Telangana state subsidy on top of PM Surya Ghar?
No. In Telangana, the applicable subsidy is the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for a 3kW or larger residential system, with TGREDCO as the implementing agency coordinating with the local DISCOM. There is no additional state top-up.
