What is PM KUSUM?
PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) is a central government scheme to provide farmers with reliable, affordable solar-powered irrigation. It has three components, including Component B — off-grid solar pumps to replace diesel pumps, with the central government paying 30% of cost, the state government another 30%, and the farmer the remaining 40% (often loan-eligible).
Sri Ishaan Solar doesn't currently install PM KUSUM solar pumps ourselves — that requires separate TGREDCO empanelment specific to the pump program. For pump applications, apply directly via the TGREDCO KUSUM portal or your local agriculture department. What we do install on farms is rooftop farmhouse solar and crop-protection fencing, below.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from Telangana farmers about agriculture solar.
Can farmhouse solar really pay for itself in Telangana?
Yes. A 3kW farmhouse rooftop system costs around ₹2,10,000 before subsidy, ₹1,32,000 after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy, and typically saves ₹25,000/year through use plus TGNPDCL net metering — a payback period of around 5 years, followed by 20+ years of near-free power.
Is a solar pump better than a diesel pump for farming in Telangana?
Yes, for most Telangana farmers a solar pump is far better than diesel — zero fuel cost and no engine maintenance. Sri Ishaan Solar doesn't install PM KUSUM solar pumps directly (that requires separate TGREDCO empanelment specific to the pump program), but you can apply through the TGREDCO KUSUM portal or your local agriculture department.
Can I sell farm solar power back to the grid in Telangana?
Yes. Farmhouse on-grid solar is eligible for net metering under TGNPDCL. Excess units generated during the day are exported to the grid and credited to your electricity account — effectively running your meter backwards. This is ideal for farm buildings with an existing DISCOM connection. Sri Ishaan Solar handles the full net metering application with TGNPDCL at no extra charge.
How does solar fencing protect crops from wild animals?
Solar fencing delivers a non-lethal electric shock through a wire perimeter, powered by a solar panel and battery so it runs 24/7 even without grid power. It's effective against wild boar, nilgai, monkeys, and stray cattle, and is safe for humans and livestock. Coverage ranges from 1 to 10+ acres depending on your land size.
How long does a farm solar installation take in Telangana?
Solar fencing for 1–5 acres takes 3–5 days. A farmhouse rooftop solar system (3–5 kW) takes 1–2 days for physical installation and another 15–30 days for TGNPDCL net metering approval. We coordinate all logistics — you do not need to visit any government office.
