Solar Panel Installation Time in Hyderabad — How Long Does It Actually Take?

Updated March 2026 | By Sri Ishaan Solar Team

One of the most common questions we get: "Bhaiya, kab tak ho jayega?" (When will it be done?) The honest answer depends on 4 phases — and the TSSPDCL approval process is the one most companies forget to mention upfront. This guide breaks it all down based on 100+ installations across Hyderabad and Telangana.

The 4 Phases of Solar Installation — Total Timeline at a Glance

PhaseWhat HappensTypical Duration
Phase 1
Site Survey
Engineer visits, measures roof, checks meter box, shading, load1–2 days after enquiry
Phase 2
DISCOM/TSSPDCL Approval
Application filed, technical feasibility check by DISCOM7–30 days (varies by area)
Phase 3
Physical Installation
Mounting structure, panels, inverter, wiring, DB box1–3 days on-site
Phase 4
Net Meter Commissioning
TSSPDCL inspector visits, bidirectional meter installed, system goes live7–21 days after install

Total realistic timeline: 3 to 6 weeks from first call to fully commissioned system. In some cases with fast TSSPDCL, it can be done in 2.5 weeks.

Phase 1: Site Survey (Day 1–2)

A good installer will do this before taking any money. At Sri Ishaan Solar, our engineer visits your home and checks:

This visit is free and takes about 45–60 minutes. After this, you get a detailed proposal within 24 hours.

Phase 2: TSSPDCL Approval — The Step Most People Don't Know About

Before physical installation begins (for subsidy-eligible on-grid systems), your installer must file an application with TSSPDCL (Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company) or TSNPDCL for northern Telangana. This includes:

TSSPDCL's approval timeline in our experience:

Pro tip: A good installer files the DISCOM application the same day you sign the agreement — don't let this step sit idle.

Phase 3: Physical Installation (1–3 Days)

This is the most visible part — and honestly the fastest. Our team typically completes a 3–5 kW residential installation in a single day. Here's what happens:

  1. Morning: Mounting structure installed on roof (GI/aluminium rails)
  2. Mid-day: Solar panels mounted and connected in series/parallel
  3. Afternoon: Inverter wall-mounted, DC and AC cabling run
  4. Evening: Earthing, lightning arrester, AC distribution board connections
  5. Test run: System powered on, generation verified on inverter display

Larger systems (8–10 kW) or installations on tricky roofs (sloped tiles, multi-level) may take 2–3 days. Your home's electricity runs normally throughout — we work around your schedule.

Phase 4: Net Meter Commissioning (7–21 Days)

After physical installation, your installer submits a commissioning request to TSSPDCL. A DISCOM inspector visits your site to verify the installation, and then a bidirectional net meter replaces your old meter. This is when your system officially "goes live" for billing purposes.

During this waiting period, your system is already generating power and reducing your consumption — you just won't have net metering export credits yet. Typically this phase takes 7–14 days in Hyderabad and up to 3 weeks in districts.

What Can Delay Your Installation?

Delay CauseHow to Avoid It
TSSPDCL backlog in your divisionFile application on Day 1, follow up weekly
Incomplete documents (Aadhaar, electricity bill, NOC)Keep all docs ready before agreement signing
Structural issues with roofSite survey catches this early — fix before ordering
Monsoon season delays (June–September)Install Oct–May for fastest completion
Material delivery delays for large systemsConfirm stock availability before signing
Low sanctioned load (need load enhancement first)Check sanctioned load vs proposed system size upfront

What You Need to Do as the Homeowner

Your role is actually quite minimal — a good installer handles everything. But here's what we'll need from you:

That's it. We handle the portal registration, TSSPDCL coordination, inspector appointment, and all paperwork end-to-end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use solar before the net meter is installed?
A: Yes! Once physical installation is done, your system starts generating. You consume that power directly and reduce your grid draw. You just can't export excess to the grid yet.

Q: What if my TSSPDCL approval takes longer than 30 days?
A: We escalate through the PM Surya Ghar portal helpline and follow up with the local DISCOM division office. Very rare in our experience that it exceeds 30 days in Hyderabad.

Q: Is there any work from my side on installation day?
A: Just ensure someone is home to give roof access and monitor the work. Our team handles everything else — including cleaning up after the job.
