Solar for Independent Houses in Hyderabad — Complete Guide for G+1 and G+2

Updated March 2026 | By Sri Ishaan Solar Team

If you own an independent house in Hyderabad — whether it's a ground-floor only, a G+1, or a G+2 — you are sitting on one of the best opportunities for rooftop solar in India. No permission from neighbours, no apartment association politics, no shared roof disputes. Just your roof, your solar panels, and your electricity savings. Here's everything you need to know.

Why Independent Houses Are Ideal for Solar

Independent houses have several natural advantages over apartments and commercial buildings:

In our experience at Sri Ishaan Solar, independent houses in localities like Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Bandlaguda, Kompally, Nizampet, Shamshabad, and across Rangareddy and Medchal districts have some of the best rooftop solar potential in Telangana.

G+0 vs G+1 vs G+2 — How Floors Affect Solar Sizing

House TypeTypical Monthly BillRecommended Solar SizeEst. Roof Needed
G+0 (Ground only, owner-occupied)₹1,500–₹3,0002–3 kW200–300 sq ft
G+1 (Both floors owner-occupied)₹3,000–₹6,0004–6 kW400–600 sq ft
G+1 (Ground floor rented out)₹2,000–₹3,500 (owner's share)3–4 kW300–400 sq ft
G+2 (All floors owner-occupied)₹5,000–₹10,0006–10 kW600–1,000 sq ft
G+2 (Owner on top, others rented)₹2,500–₹4,500 (owner's share)3–5 kW300–500 sq ft

Important: The solar system should be sized to match the owner's electricity consumption under the same meter — not the total building consumption. Rented floors on separate meters cannot share the subsidy or net metering credits.

Real Example: 5 kW System for a G+1 House in LB Nagar

A typical case we handle regularly: Mr. Raju (name changed) owns a G+1 house in LB Nagar. Ground floor is his own family's residence, first floor is rented out. His electricity bill averages Rs 4,200/month (400–500 units). He has about 550 sq ft of shade-free terrace on top of the first floor.

Common Objections — Answered

"Mera ghar purana hai — kya structure load le sakta hai?" (My house is old — can the structure handle the load?)
Solar panel mounting structures are designed to distribute load evenly across multiple roof anchor points. A typical 5 kW system (20 panels + mounting) weighs about 400–450 kg total — spread across 15–20 anchor points on the roof slab. For most RCC roofs built after 1990, this is within safe limits. Our site survey includes a basic structural assessment. If there's any doubt, we recommend a civil engineer's sign-off before proceeding. We've installed on 30-year-old houses without issues in most cases.

"Meri roof pe chaya hai — tree ya water tank ki wajah se" (There's shade from a tree or overhead tank)
Shading is the biggest efficiency killer for solar. However, the impact depends heavily on where the shade falls and what type of panels and inverter are used. Partial shading solutions include: (a) micro-inverters or power optimisers on individual panels, (b) redesigning panel layout to avoid shaded zones, or (c) trimming branches where feasible. Our site survey maps shade at different times of day. If more than 30% of your roof is shaded during peak sun hours (10am–3pm), we'll tell you honestly that solar may not be the best investment right now.

"Main pehle se hi EMI mein hun — aur investment afford nahi hogi" (I'm already under EMIs, can't afford more investment)
Solar financing is available specifically for this — solar loans at 7–9% interest from nationalised banks under PM Surya Ghar scheme. Monthly EMI on a Rs 1,72,000 loan (after subsidy) for 5 years at 8% is approximately Rs 3,500. Your electricity savings from day one will be Rs 3,800–4,200/month. Net cash flow is positive from Month 1. This is one of the rare investments that pays for itself while you're still paying for it.

"Kya bijli board wale problem nahi karte?" (Won't TSSPDCL create problems?)
TSSPDCL has a well-defined process for net metering approvals under PM Surya Ghar. We file all applications on your behalf — from the DISCOM feasibility application to commissioning inspection. In 7 years and 100+ installations, we've never had a project permanently blocked by TSSPDCL. Delays happen, but rejections are extremely rare for residential homes meeting the criteria.
